Christmas is the busiest time of the year for salons, with clients competing for limited appointments in order to look their best for the big day.
It can be an exhausting time for any therapist as clients are booked in back to back from sun up to sun down and beyond! Whilst the extra profits are great, many beauty professionals approach this time of year with dread.
The tiredness, the sore feet and cramping hands are coupled with rushed breaks and high levels of stress to make the run up to Christmas less than delightful. As someone who works in the service industry it is easy to focus on treating your clients and forget about yourself, but a tiny bit of selfishness might be just what you need to get through it all.
It may not seem an easy thing to do, but try to have fun! Your clients will be excited for the festivities so try and allow that to become contagious. If you engross yourself in the festive spirit, it may just make it that bit more bearable. Swap your usual music for some Christmas tunes, invest in some hot chocolate (or bubbles if your business has permission) and get into the swing of things.
If you are doing nails, have fun chatting with clients and enjoy playing with some Christmas nail art. When you get a massage booked in, try and engross yourself in the relaxation to give yourself a little breather during a manic day.
It is tempting to book your clients in at any time the request in the desperation to keep them happy, but burning yourself out will only spoil your own Christmas. You might be doing extra hours but set yourself a proper cut off point and stick to it. Make sure you schedule breaks throughout the day, even if it's only a few minutes. Maximise any downtime by getting juniors to set up rooms, greet clients and take payments to allow you to have a moment to yourself.
Christmas is supposed to be fun for everyone, not just your clients!
